Subject: Cry Today, Not Tomorrow
Proverbs 14:12 "There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death"
Earlier this week I heard that one of our students was killed in a shooting this past weekend. So during one of my class periods a normally bright student was moping around and I then asked if she knew the student that was killed. She replied that he was killed leaving her house. Because of an ongoing discussion that I have been having with an admitted gang member and drug user in the school, I began to "preach" with all I had to the moping young lady before me.
"I'm tired of seeing you students mope around after someone is shot and killed and the rest of the time you're walking around thinking these people are cool because they are "gangsters." Today you mope while yesterday you could've been telling these "friends" that the end of this way is death. Don't mope now because of what you didn't do yesterday. You need to make change for tomorrow."
That was some of what I said, but I was quite on fire as I expressed myself to this student. The point is that many people accept "the ways" of death as they live that way in their daily lifestyles; hanging with the wrong crowd, living with addictive and deadly habits. Later they feel like "innocent victims" when death or something bad happens. They are not. They have chosen their way.
We need to cry today for those in these situations and pray for their change and do what we can to help, because as I told the gang member at school, "I cry for you now, but I won't cry at your funeral because you have chosen this way."
