Subject: How Much You Gonna Love Him?
Luke 7:41-42 - "There was a certain creditor which had
two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. And when
they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore,
which of them will love him most?"
It's Valentine's Day and of course that means everyone will be expressing their love towards those they care about.
Will
there be a special place in your heart for those who love you as well as
those you love? The story of the creditor and the debtors displays the way
in which we will display our love towards Christ. Simply put, if we believe
that He has forgiven us of much, then we will love Him much, but if we believe
that He has forgiven us of little, we will love Him little. That's why it's
important for us to see ourselves as God sees us. We are sinful, unlovable beings, but God sees us through His redemptive will as something worth dying
for, so He did in His Son.
That was no simple thing to do because it took a willing Son who would leave
His lofty position to become like us so that we could become like Him. Now
I've met people before who felt like they were okay and not as bad as others
and so they were thankful. However, justifying ourselves by ourselves only
makes us minimize the great love and price that Christ had to pay to redeem
us. He endured excessive grief because of my stubborn, hateful, lying, cheating,
lusting, murderous, jealous, envious attitude. By His ability to cover that
with His blood, I know that there is no greater love. Therefore, I "must"
love.
