Subject:  Preparing For God

1 Chronicles 29:18 - "O LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this for ever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of thy people, and prepare their heart unto thee:"

My daughter was a little bit too excited when preparing for the dance she was invited to by my sister-in-law.  Whereas on school-day mornings and especially on Sundays I have to attempt to wake her up and practically nag her about getting ready, for this occasion she was quickly putting things in order.  I expressed my opinions to her about how motivated she was about going to this event and how she wanted to look her best and asked her to contrast that with how she prepares for church each Sunday.

See sometimes we've simply got it backwards.  We spend much time in preparation for the things of this world, but we don't spend enough time in our preparation for God and the things of God.

King David knew the priority of preparation for God.  He first wanted the people to have their hearts prepared.

Perhaps that is our problem.  If we are going to prepare properly, we should first have our hearts prepared.  When that happens, worship becomes "the big event" and we treat it as such.  How are you preparing for that today?
