Subject: When "He"Comes!
John 1:27 - "He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose."
John 1:29 - "The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith,
Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world."
After spending all fall reading through the Old Testament, I was trying
to describe to a friend my excitement about beginning to read the New Testament
stories of the birth of Christ and His ministry. Of course nothing quite
matches up but I put it this way.
Next football season, Virginia Tech will have really high hopes for Marcus
Vick who is to be their starting Quarterback. He is the younger brother
of his now famous brother Michael who some herald as the best player in the
NFL. For Virginia Tech who struggled late last season, they see Marcus as
a potential saviour. Another example is the high school student Lebron James.
He is supposedly the best player ever to come out of high school according
to media reports and will be the #1 draft of the NBA. The team that picks
him will definitely believe they have a "messiah."
The excitement and the energy that these people generate is tremendous.
Their will be marketing and hype like you wouldn't believe. That's the exact
type of hype that Christ stirred. For more than a thousand years there was
anticipation that this messiah would be on the scene and that He would turn
the world upside down and He did exactly that. To read with the understanding
of how high the expectations were and then to watch the rise and fall and
"rise" again of Christ is not only just a great literary work, but a story
with eternal implications. Taking away the sin of the world is a feat no
one else could accomplish but God.
There will be many great athletes, actors, politicians and businessmen to
come on the scene during our day, but never has there been and will there
be a man like this Christ.
He's awesome.
