Subject: What Made Them Wise?
Matthew 2:1 - 2 "Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him."
Throughout time, there has been a lot of speculation about who these "wise" men were from the east and what they were about. Who were they? Where did they come from? How many were there? Why did they really come? All great questions to ponder, study and talk about. I think though that the two scriptures above could be easily boiled down to four words. "Wise men worship Him."
That takes the scripture out of the abstract historical setting in which we may find it and it makes it applicable for you and me and everyone else in this world today. If you continue on reading this passage, you find that when they came upon the child, Jesus, they fell down and worshipped Him. That's why they came and from my viewpoint, that's what made them wise.
Today, it's not our "gold, frankincense and myrrh" that God wants from us. While some people won't go to church across the street, the wise men journeyed for many miles just to worship the Savior. What would you do to worship Him? That will be the gauge of your wisdom.
