Subject: Risking Your Life
John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
The story of James Kim is a tragic one, but in my mind a heroic one. His family was stranded on a mountain road due to weather and after receiving no rescue help in 4 days, he struck out on his own to get help for his family. Of course his family was later rescued and he was found two days ago and had frozen due to death.
While stranded, James and his family did everything possible to stay alive. With the car out of gas, they burned the tires on the auto to signal for help and still no help came. With most options gone, James then left the family to go for help.
The thought that comes to my mind when thinking of this tragedy is, how far would I go to save my family's life? What would I do, not just in a physical sense, but in a spiritual one? Would I go out into a cold, cruel world, knowing that I could be killed just to save them? Would I risk my own security for their salvation?
Today the story of James Kim is one of risking it all for the salvation of his family. We've heard that before and we have an example of another Father who risked it all for His family. He knew what it would cost Him and He did it anyway. He felt that His family was worth dying for. Is yours?
