Subject: A Better Sacrifice
Romans 5:7-8 "For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
When I heard the story from former President Bush, I was amazed. A medical doctor had a son in the Marine Corps, who was fighting in Iraq and was killed. The father's immediate response was to petition the White House for an age waiver so that he could enlist in the military and serve in Iraq himself, which he is now doing. That's a great story to me.
Over the past few years I've read a few great stories just like that one that speaks to a courage and sacrifice that is uncommon. Many were quick to laud, although not endorse, the dedication of the suicide bombers who flew a plane into the twin towers in New York City on 9/11, but how much greater is the devotion of people like the doctor, who as a medical doctor went to Iraq to fight to save lives rather than destroy them.
In the end, we will realize that Jesus Christ died for the doctor as well as the suicide bombers. That's why His sacrifice supersedes all sacrifices.
Today think about your sacrifice. What are you giving your life for?
