Subject: Service; The Essence Of Our Being
Matthew 20:28 - "It's the same way with the Son of Man. He didn't come so that others could serve him. He came to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many people."
I joined a fraternity while in college and while the words, "college fraternity" can conjure up many negative images, there is also a very positive side to the organization that I joined. That side is the service. I frequently am reminded of the Matthew 20:28 scripture whenever I recite one of our fraternity poems. In that poem we recite that "service is the essence of our being." That could or could not be true for members of our fraternity, but it should definitely be true for us as believers.
Jesus set an example of service which we should emulate. While many think that their positions or prestige allows them to "be" served, we need simply look at Christ the King and see that He really didn't come so that others could serve Him.
Today our fraternity celebrates its 100th birthday since its inception. Happy birthday to the fraternity, but more importantly, let us stand for service and that service is to the Alpha and Omega. That's the real fraternity.
