Subject: Somebody Is Wrong
Isaiah 26:2 "Open ye the gates, that the righteous nation which keepeth the truth may enter in."
President elect Barack Obama has begun building his cabinet and making appointments for his administration ahead of his January inauguration. Many people who didn't support him for the office of President are surprised at the diversity of some of the selections. Likewise some who did support him are outraged and feel as though he is letting them down. His latest issue was the selection of Rick Warren, pastor of Saddleback Church in California and bestselling author of "The Purpose Driven Life," to give the invocation at the inaugural ceremonies.
Openly gay congressman, Barney Frank, derided the President-elect calling it a "mistake to invite someone who thinks that gay marriage can be likened to incest." President-elect Obama defended his position saying that, "he has also invited Joseph Lowery, a Methodist minister and civil rights leader who supports same-sex marriage and gay rights, to deliver the benediction." So there you have it. Two ministers, one doing the invocation and one doing the benediction, with radically different belief systems. Somebody is wrong.
Now the President-elect doesn't have to decide who is right or who is wrong and support either viewpoint if he doesn't choose to. However, I think it is important that we as believers make those righteous judgments. Yeah I know, some people cringe in our soft and cuddly world of toleration when you make those type of statements, nevertheless, we shouldn't compromise truth for unity.
One thing is for sure, as ministers of God, we should rather be known as intolerant to men and righteous before God than to be known as tolerant to men and abhorred by God.
Today there is truth. Pray that our nation keep it that we may enter in.
