Subject: Stay In The Fight
Ephesians 6:12 - "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."
I have a young college-aged friend who is really struggling with some addictions and as we were talking last week, he seemed saddened that he has been unable to proclaim victory in his fight against these sinful habits. He seemed a little confused when I said to him, "you could always stop fighting."
I thought about this in the context of the President elect's goal to end the war in Iraq. I was thinking how applicable the statement I made to my friend is to this case also. See we can always stop fighting, but that doesn't mean that the enemy is going to stop fighting us.
I explained further to my friend, the fact that you are fighting says that you understand that you have an enemy and that he must be defeated and so you fight on. If you decide to stop fighting while your enemy continues to fight, then you have simply acknowledged that you will be defeated.
There are times in the Christian walk where we will lose a battle, as my friend has at times, but if we give up the fight against spiritual wickedness because we've lost a battle, then we ultimately lose the war.
Today you could always stop fighting. That's easy to do, but God wants us to stay in the fight because ultimately we win. Besides, our enemy has no plans of stopping his fight so why should we.
