Subject:  Waiting On Man To Till The Ground

Genesis 2:5 - "And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground."

I read the weather report about the rain that we were supposed to receive yesterday, so soon after I returned home I grabbed my rake and I went to work.  I was excited because I've been seeding a field next to our house with rye grass which is a nice green color and it stays that way through the winter months.  Once you put down the seed, all it needs is rain and in a short period of time, usually within a week or 10 days, you'll see a beautiful field of green.  The catch though is to work the ground properly before the rain.

Yesterday, I raked the ground thoroughly to turn up the soil and just as I finished sprinkling the seed into the soil, right on cue, the skies opened up and the rain came down.  It was almost as if God was waiting on me to finish so that He could do the rest.  I thought to myself, "take it away God."

Today it could be that God is waiting for you to "prepare the ground" before He brings the rain that you need for the new seed that has been planted.  You may have seeds of love planted, but perhaps you've never tried to till the ground of hatred, jealousy, envy, or lust that reside in your heart.  These things can prevent the seeds of love from taking root.  When God makes it rain, it is to grow your seed, but if you don't have your ground prepared, there will be nothing produced.

Even in the beginning you see from the scripture above that God didn't cause it to rain because there was no man to till the ground.  Nevertheless there were still plants and He caused them to grow.  Now that He has man, we are to till the ground.  Today lets get it straight.  Remember: God brings the rain, we till the ground.
