Subject: The Price Of Blood
Matthew 27:6 - "And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood."
The lawyers are lining up to represent the families of those who died in last week's plane crash. Comair Flight 5191 flying out of Lexington, KY's Bluegrass Airport crashed after erroneously taking off from a shortened runway. The families were compensated by Comair $25,000 each for the loss of their loved ones and Comair's spokesperson issued this statement, " We understand that no monetary relief can overcome the grief of losing a loved one, however we recognize that there will be some additional financial demands at this difficult time and hope that this assistance will alleviate some of those financial pressures."
I thought that was a nice statement and true. Today though in our society, many try to relate their grief to monetary windfalls. Many of the 9/11 victims from the world trade center were compensated in the millions after receiving compensation from other sources. Sometimes it makes you wonder how people feel about losing their loved ones. Is there a price that does in fact make the grief easier, because if so, perhaps there is a price that can make us forget it altogether.
Sooner or later we learn what Judas learned that in cases of the death of a loved one, the money doesn't matter. Judas thought that the 30 pieces of silver would be a huge windfall for giving up Christ to the rulers. He didn't however imagine that he was taking the 30 pieces for His blood.
The price of any of our loved ones is worth more than $25,000 and like the price of His blood is immeasurable. Today don't give up for money what God gives up for free and that is true love and true life, and that life is eternal because of the immeasurable price of His blood.
