Subject: An Everyday Witness
1 John 5:10 - "He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son."
Don't you just love it when you get this question from a Christian? You know the one that goes like this, "did you witness to anybody today?" Sometimes it's said by a pastor or preacher in church. They might ask, "raise your hand if you witnessed to somebody this week." I always feel so conflicted about how to respond to those types of questions. Well why is that?
Because the verse above says that he who believes on the Son of God has the witness in himself. That means to me that there is nowhere that I can go that I'm not witnessing. The better question might be, "was I a poor or a good witness for Christ last week?" Think about it. If you are a child of God and have been saved through faith in Jesus Christ, you are testifying and witnessing about Him everyday and in every situation. Yes when you "told off" the lady in the grocery store because she overcharged you, you were witnessing for Christ. When you took that tax exemption because you knew they wouldn't find it, you were witnessing for Christ. When you and your coworkers had a big laugh at that dirty joke in the office, you were witnessing for Christ.
As believers we carry His name on us and His witness in us. It's not so much the words we speak that determine our witness as it is the life that we lead that reveals our effectiveness for Him. In either case, everywhere we go and at all times, we're either witnessing for Him or against Him. Let's determine in our hearts to witness for Him.
