Subject: You’re No Good
Proverbs 16:18 - "Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall."
I saw an action spy thriller this weekend and it was quite facnciful as you would expect. Of course the hero could accomplish all kinds of amazing feats and things always seemed to work out at just the right time. The amazing thing about it was that every time he just barely got out of a fix, that circumstance seemed to inflate his ego about how good he was. Even when facing death he was utterly cool. His boss man even stated that he knew that the hero had “no fear of dying.” Well that was probably true, but he had no fear of dying for all the wrong reasons. Somebody better tell that boy…
Have you met anyone like that who is so caught up in their abilities to do their job, or their knowledge about something that it seems to make them the all in all? Well, the bible calls this pride and if you look up old Nebuchadnezzar’s story in Daniel, you’ll find that he lived out the verse above about pride. We should seek humility and realize that all that we have accomplished is simply fulfillment of God’s divine grace and mercy and as we’ve stated before, the sun shines on the evil as well as the just.
