Subject:  Trust Is An Action

Ephesians 1:13 "In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise."

I was looking at this verse yesterday in the devotional and compared it to the verse in James 1:22 that says that we should not only be hearers, but doers of the word.  I realized that in the Ephesians verse, you have both of those things talked about.

There are so many of us who have heard the "word of truth."  Parents tell it to their children.  Teachers tell it to their students and sometimes its just a friend telling another friend.  However, just hearing truth isn't enough.  There needs to be some action in regards to the truth that we've heard.  Trust is one of those actions.

In the case of the parent, if they impart some truth about life to their child, the child shows that they believe or trust that parent by living according to that truth.  This trust is not just a sentimental belief; it is a positive affirming action to adjust life according to that truth.

God wants us to act on his truth by trusting Him.  One thing for sure, we can't trust Him if we are not hearers of His truth.  We may have heard it initially to the saving of our souls, but we need to hear it daily and then actively trust in what we've heard by living our lives according to "the word of truth," because after all trust is an action.
