Subject: Living In The Last Days
2 Timothy 3:1-3 "This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good."
In Graham, Washington yesterday, a man killed his five children before killing himself. The man tracked down his wife and found her with another man. She told the husband that she wasn't coming back and was leaving with the other man. The man then went home and murdered his five children before taking his own life.
There are so many things wrong with this situation that it's hard to begin, but I want to focus on one aspect of this horrendous crime and ask the question, "where is the natural affection?" What kind of parent kills his or her own children? As a parent, I just can't get my mind around that one. I try, with my rational/finite mind to come up with some reason that could possibly make sense for a parent, whom having nurtured and disciplined babies and seeing them grow into toddlers and on to teens, why they would kill their own children and the only thing I get is, we're living in the last days.
The scripture makes clear that it doesn't even take the Spirit of God to care for your own offspring; that's natural affection, but in the last days, even that's gone.
Today pray for our country and the world. I can't help but to remember a message Tony Evans made months ago about how if we continue to make abortion okay, then we shouldn't be surprised at the culture of death we have created. The times are truly perilous, but God is still in control. We are living in the last days.
