Subject: In Like A Flood
Isaiah 59:19 "So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him."
I was thinking of this scripture yesterday as I awoke early in the morning and realized that we were being overwhelmed with water. This has happened before, but this time we weren't expecting it and in a short period of time, the water had entered the garage portion of our house and was threatening the house itself. Because this had happened before, we remembered one simple rule: "Don't Open The Garage." The first time we did that, we learned never to do it again. On that occasion, the waters came rapidly rushing in and almost destroyed everything.
As the scripture says above, "the enemy comes in like a flood." If you've ever faced a rising tide of water, then this verse has real meaning. I worked feverishly in the pitch black night of 4 a.m. and finally had diminished the threat three hours later so that we could open up the garage door. Sometimes that's what it takes to keep the water from coming in and sometimes that's what it takes to keep the enemy from coming in. Sometimes we must toil all night and that toil could be in the form of praying and just seeking God because we might not be sure how God will stop the flood of the enemy, but the scripture says that He will lift up a standard against him.
While I did all of the work to stop the water, guess what really happened. It stopped raining. I didn't cause that to happen. I don't control the rain, but He does. I thank God that He gives me strength in this life to do the work He has given me, but when the enemy comes in like a flood, I need more than me. I need someone who can lift up a standard against him. I need the Spirit of the Lord.
