Subject: The Beauty Of Parents
Proverbs 30:11 "There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother."
This past weekend our family celebrated my dad's 80th birthday and my mom's 75th birthday. Both of their birthdays were last week. It was an outstanding occasion to recognize them for all that they have done in building their family. Remarkable, was to hear the great words from friends and family members about the contributions that my mom and dad made to their lives. I continually echo the sentiment that the older I get, the smarter parents get. In reality, it's just that I realize now that times may change and people may poke fun at old people and how their parents may be "out-of-it" or "un-cool," but that is a an ignorant generation or group of people.
Parents are indeed a blessing and when I say "parents," I mean all of those who play the parenting role. You may be an uncle substituting for an absent father or you may be a mother raising your sister's children. You are to be blessed for raising children when you raise them as God directs. This is what my parents did.
The converse of the above verse would state that a wise generation does not curse their father and they bless their mother. Once we realize the contributions of godly men and women to building their families, we will do none other.
I had occasion to attend a funeral of a childhood friend the same day as my parent's celebration and the entire day put into perspective the responsibility of blessing our parents while they live, that we may rejoice in celebration at their departure.
Today pray for parents, young and old and those who have lost loved ones recently.
