Subject: Campaign For Christ
Matthew 28:19-20 "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen"
For the past month I've been running for office on the local school board. I like campaigning because it brings me up close and personal with the people in the area. With the election just under two weeks away, I'm vigorously looking for people and groups to talk to and I feel like I just can't shake enough hands. As I continuously seek out speaking engagements and other forums to address the people on what I believe, I've started thinking, perhaps this is what Paul was doing on his missionary journeys.
Paul took seriously the command to go forth teaching all nations. He looked for every opportunity he could find to proclaim the message of Christ. And just like when running a campaign, everything he did was to that end. He worked and raised money to fund his travels. He wrote letters to his "constituents," the churches he started, to ensure that they were still on the right "platform" and he surely held a lot of rallies and some of his statements at those rallies often got him in trouble.
Today I think about how effectively I'm running my campaign and wondering if I'm running as effective a campaign for Christ. In the end, whether it is for a local election, national election or anything else, it's all about making sure we put Him on the ticket to run with us. Whether or not the people vote for me is not nearly as important as whether or not they vote for Him. We should all "campaign" that way.
