Subject:  Bigger Than Life

2Corinthians 3:5 - "Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves, but our sufficiency is of God."

If we never encounter anything that brings us to the end of ourselves then we will always feel like we are capable of handling life's challenges on our own.  The truth of the matter is that we really aren't capable.  I heard Alistair Begg on the radio say one day, "God's got a description for all of the ability He's given us.  He calls it filthy rags."  That's exactly the way He sees our efforts to be good and get us out of our situation.  We have to be totally broken and at the end of our rope at times to see His absolute sufficiency for everything in life.  Not just some things, but everything needs to be subject to Him.  I really hate when people say, "well I need to pray about that because it's a big decision."  So I guess that means that God built us to handle the small stuff and He will take care of the big stuff?  No way!  As we mature in our Christian walk and learn about Him, we understand that every decision we make should be subject to His direction and we can make those decisions more quickly because we know where God stand on the matter.
