Subject:  One Word

James 1:8 "A double minded man is unstable in all his ways."

I thought to myself, surely there has got to be a mistake somewhere.  It seemed as if the famous author of "The Purpose Driven Life," Rick Warren, was misunderstood as he publicly acknowledged that he "never" supported California's recent Proposition 8 initiative.  If you recall, the proposition defined marriage as between a man and a woman.  Recently Mr Warren, the pastor of the Saddleback Church in California apologized to his gay friends saying that he never did support the proposition.  

Well those words are awfully confusing when you have public statements that he made from the pulpit to his congregation like this one: 

    "Now let me say this really clearly: we support Proposition 8 -- and if you believe what the Bible says about marriage, you need to support Proposition 8. I never support a candidate, but on moral issues I come out very clear...So I urge you to support Proposition 8, and pass that word on. " 

I'm not sure what is happening with Mr Warren, but he is surely confusing many with his contradictory tone and for us that is instructional.  We need to ensure that we are stable in our ways.  If we are trying to win friends and influence people, we should not let that get in the way of our integrity and stability.  We must be singularly minded when it comes to the things we speak and more than that, the things that we stand for.  At all times, lets speak with one word.
