Subject:  Gotta Grow

2 Peter 3:18 - King "But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen."

Much of the information that is coming forth about Cho Seung Hui shows that he too is a victim.  Not just a victim of his own murderous spree in which he took his own life, but as he says, a victim of our culture.  It seems that it's pretty much everyone else's fault that he walked into a classroom and started shooting people.  No, it's not his own twisted view of life and his own depressed state that made him do it.  It's our fault.  In his profanity-laced diatribe, he states that he was forced into a corner and that "we made him do it."

Well much of that goes along with the mentality of many in our society who feel no sense of responsibility for their actions.  That is indeed a climate that seems to permeate much of our culture.  Someone says something they shouldn't have said, there's someone or something else to blame.  Someone gets caught doing something they shouldn't have done, there's someone or something else to blame and now, someone commits mass murder and it's because someone else made him do it.

Taking responsibility is an important part of growing up.  Sadly, some people simply get older and they never grow up.  Today we need to see that excuses are simply the devices used by those who have not grown to maturity.  God exhorts us to grow up in Him.  When we fail to do this, we are as children who have not learned that we are responsible for our actions.  As we say in my JROTC program, No Excuses!
