Subject: Killing God
Matthew 25:40 "And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."
The bizarre story of an 8 year-old girl, Sandra Cantu, whose body was found last week in a suitcase in a drained pond, suddenly turned even more horrific when it was discovered that she was first raped before being killed and put into the suitcase. The horror is that a 28-year-old female Sunday School teacher was arrested and is alleged to have committed all of the crimes against the young child.
Any murder is heinous, but acts such as these, against young, defenseless children especially appeals to our natural feelings to protect the young and helpless; those carefree youth who have a natural trust for adults and others.
There are many mistakes we can make in life and while you often hear the quote, sin is sin, the reality is that the scripture shows that there are "hotter parts of hell." The beauty of God's grace is that even people who commit heinous acts such as those described above or acts that we think aren't nearly as bad, don't have to go to hell.
Jesus said "inasmuch as ye have done it to the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." That means we can kill God, That means we can lie on God. That means that we can cheat God. That means we can abuse God. However the scriptural passage above goes on to say in the next verse, "Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels." This is the penalty for "killing God" without acknowledging our guilt of all sin and giving it to Him.
Today pray for all of the people involved in this terrible tragedy. God loves the murdered and the murderer. We should do both as well.
